High-voltage batteries
The pack opened, measured cell by cell, and repaired — not swapped for a new one at the price of a car.
When to have it looked at
- Range that has dropped faster than the years explain.
- Charging that stops early, or refuses above a certain power.
- An isolation fault, or a pack that has locked itself out entirely.
Why it fails
A pack is a few hundred cells that have to stay within millivolts of each other. One weak module drags the whole pack down to its own capacity, and the management system eventually refuses to work around it. Almost none of that requires a new pack — it requires finding which module it is.
How we work
- We record the condition in writing before anything is opened, and you get a copy.
- The unit is stripped and inspected. It is the only way to know the real state of it.
- Everything that matters is measured, not estimated.
- You get a written quote before any repair starts. Nothing proceeds without your agreement.
- We replace what has actually failed and what will fail next, not the whole assembly.
- It is tested under load and returned to you with the findings written up.
What decides the price
What moves the price is the platform, what we find once it is open — which nobody can know beforehand — and whether the original parts can be reused. That is why the quote comes after the inspection and not before it.
Turnaround, warranty and whether a teardown is chargeable are set by this workshop. Ask us before you commit.
What this covers
Repairing a pack instead of replacing it
A traction battery is a set of modules, a management system and a sealed housing. When one part of that fails, replacing all of it is a decision about what the workshop is equipped to do, not about what is wrong with the car.
What repair gets you
- A fraction of the cost of an exchange pack.
- A pack that is not scrapped while most of it is sound — which is the larger environmental argument, whatever else is claimed for electric cars.
- Faults corrected at the cause rather than carried over into a replacement that will meet the same conditions.
- Availability, at a time when exchange packs are quoted in months.
When replacement really is the answer
Structural damage to the housing, fire damage, and packs where enough modules have degraded that replacing them one at a time no longer makes sense. That judgement comes after the pack is measured and opened, not from the message on the dashboard.
