Inverter repair

Power stages, gate drivers and control boards. We open what the industry replaces whole.

When to have it looked at

  • A drive fault that appears under acceleration and clears when cold.
  • The car goes into limp mode after a sustained load.
  • A fault that arrived together with a motor or coolant problem.

Why it fails

The power stage switches hundreds of amps thousands of times a second, and it fails where the heat is: the dies, the bonds and the gate drivers. Contamination from a leaking drive unit will do it in weeks. The whole unit is replaceable for the price of a small car; the part that failed usually is not.

How we work

  1. We record the condition in writing before anything is opened, and you get a copy.
  2. The unit is stripped and inspected. It is the only way to know the real state of it.
  3. Everything that matters is measured, not estimated.
  4. You get a written quote before any repair starts. Nothing proceeds without your agreement.
  5. We replace what has actually failed and what will fail next, not the whole assembly.
  6. It is tested under load and returned to you with the findings written up.

What decides the price

What moves the price is the platform, what we find once it is open — which nobody can know beforehand — and whether the original parts can be reused. That is why the quote comes after the inspection and not before it.

Turnaround, warranty and whether a teardown is chargeable are set by this workshop. Ask us before you commit.

Inverters and control units

The inverter turns the pack's direct current into the alternating current that turns the motor. When it fails the car does not drive: it stops where it is. Control units are the other half of the same story — they run the pack, the drive and the safety functions, and one bad unit can immobilise a car or produce faults that point somewhere else entirely.

What tends to be wrong

  • Power stages that have aged thermally, or lost a solder joint under vibration.
  • Moisture in a housing that was never meant to see it.
  • A control unit reporting a fault whose cause is upstream of it.

Why replacement is the wrong first answer

A dealership replaces the assembly, because that is what it is equipped to do. On an inverter or a control unit the failure is usually one component on one board, and the rest of the unit is sound. Opening it establishes which of the two you are actually dealing with, and that answer is worth having before anybody orders a part.
